Frozen 2 has finally hit theaters after six years of waiting, achieving the highest opening of all time for an animated film (adjusted for inflation), with a global box office of $350.2 million. With this second installment earning nearly as much critical and commercial success as the first, could Frozen 3 already be in the works?
As for now, it’s unsure. In an interview with CinemaBlend, directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, joined by producer Peter Del Vecho, all agreed that the film’s story feels complete. “Ask him in a year,” said Lee, pointing to Buck with a chuckle. Del Vecho noted the “amazing job” done by the filmmakers telling the story of Anna (Kristen Bell) and Elsa (Idina Menzel), two sisters discovering their magical powers in the kingdom of Arendelle and making friends along the way. He added that the story “now feels like a complete journey.” Lee agreed, stating “It feels complete to me.”
With Frozen II earning $350 million in its first three days alone, along with scoring a 76% on Rotten Tomatoes (compared to the first film’s score of 90%), there is no doubt that a third installment to the franchise would similarly score such critical and commercial success. Ask Chris Buck in a year.
