Writer- director and actor Cooper Raiff is quickly moving forward with his next project. According to Deadline, the 23-year-old, who turned heads with his 2020 film debut Shithouse, is teaming with Dakota Johnson for his sophomore outing entitled Cha Cha Real Smooth.
The film is written, directed, and will star Raiff in the lead role of a man working a small-time job, while slowly becoming friends with a young mother(Johnson) and her daughter. Akin to Shithouse, the film seems to be a low-key story focused on youth.
Raiff’s debut film won the Grand Jury Award for Narrative Feature at the SXSW Film Festival, and has caught many eyes, including Jay Duplass of the Duplass brothers, who has more or less become a mentor for the young filmmaker. Raiff’s journey so far is incredibly endearing, and it is great to a see an A-List talent such as Dakota Johnson onboard to star and co-produce the film.
Johnson, on the other hand, most popular for her roles in the 50 Shades of Grey series, has been in increasingly interesting projects including Peanut Butter Falcon, Bad Times at the El Royale, and Suspiria. This will be her second producing and starring credit, after doing the same with Am I Ok? which just wrapped production and is going into post-production. Her union with Raiff will certainly be good for both parties.
The young filmmaker is certainly a creator to be on the look out for as he hit the scene in 2020 and looks as if he is not slowing down anytime soon. The title of his sophomore outing could refer to the Cha Cha Slide by DJ Casper, which is an incredibly addictive song that everyone has certainly heard at a high school dance.
Shithouse is currently available for rental or purchase on Amazon Prime.
There is no set production date for Cha Cha Real Smooth as of now.
