Over the past few weeks, there have been numerous announcement of films that were initially set for an October release being delayed due to ongoing concerns with the pandemic. With big films like Wonder Woman and Candyman being delayed to late this year or early next year, many were wondering if Sony Pictures Animation’s highly anticipated project, Connected, would receive the same fate. Unfortunately it has, as Connected has been removed from its original October 23rd release date.

The announcement has come rather suddenly with about a month left till the film’s initial release, but due to recent concerns with both COVID-19 and the box office as Tenet‘s performance was below expectations, sudden changes are not a surprise. Many theaters have been struggling to stay afloat during this time with the lower attendance and not as many audiences rushing out to see new releases when other options are available. Fortunately for Connected, there is still a chance that the film could still come out this year, possibly during the 2020 season. The official twitter page made the announcement vaguely stating that, “You’ll have to wait a little longer to meet the Mitchells.”
Regardless of whether the film comes out this year or not, the film still looks to be a very expressive and fun project with stylistic animation that Sony became known for after the release of Spider-Verse. While it is unfortunate that those excited have to wait longer, the film looks so unique and entertaining from an animation perspective that all the delays may be worth it in the long run.
