Please Don’t Destroy, the SNL trio of Martin Herlihy, John Higgins, and Ben Marshall, is making their debut feature film and Universal Pictures has revealed that Conan O’Brien, Bowen Yang, and “Hacks” breakout star Meg Stalter are part of the project as well. X Mayo and Nichole Sakura will also appear in the upcoming untitled comedy. Paul Briganti is directing while Jimmy Miller and Judd Apatow are producing via Apatow Productions. The trio will write the screenplay in addition to starring in the film. The comedy, which is currently in production in North Carolina, is set to hit theaters on August 18, 2023.
The story is centered around three childhood friends who want to change their lives by searching for a gold treasure that is thought to be buried in a nearby mountain.
Please Don’t Destroy was formed at New York University and gained online fame for their viral shorts. The trio was later hired to write for SNL where the members have continued creating hits including Three Sad Virgins, starring Taylor Swift and Pete Davidson, Good Variant, Hard Seltzer, and Rami Wants a Treat.
In 2021 O’Brien concluded his late night show and is now focusing on his podcast, titled Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend.
Yang, who has been working at SNL since 2018, recently received his third Emmy nomination for the show. His latest appearances are in Hulu’s Fire Island and Universal’s Bros.
Stalter, who received numerous accolades for her role as assistant Kayla on Hacks, is currently developing her own HBO Max series, Church Girls.
Recognized for playing Cheyenne on Superstore, Sakura was recently seen in Hulu’s Maggie where she starred opposite Rebecca Rittenhouse. Her works also include Shameless and Project X.
X Mayo has been a writer on The Daily Show With Trevor Noah and has appeared in The Farewell, NBC’s American Auto, and Netflix’s Finding ‘Ohana.
