The release date for Marvel’s Black Widow was just around the corner, scheduled for May 1. Now that release date has been pushed back to November 6, meaning that Marvel Studios now has more time to put additional work into post-production. There has been major last minute swap of composers this week, as Mission Impossible: Fallout composer Lorne Balfe is now taking the reins once held by Alexandre Desplat.
This is a surprising change so close to the film’s original release date, and no official reason was given for this replacement. It may be due to creative differences between Desplat and the film’s team, or a difficulty in scheduling brought about by the changing launch date.
Desplat is known for his work on films like Godzilla, Little Women, The Imitation Game, and many of Wes Anderson’s films. His next project is Anderson’s The French Dispatch, which may have been his other prior commitment that may be conflicting with Black Widow.
Balfe has worked on another of Scarlett Johannson’s past projects- Ghost in the Shell (2017). He is no stranger to big action films after scoring Pacific Rim: Uprising, Terminator: Genisys, and being part of the team for The Dark Knight.
Black Widow will hit theaters on November 6, as long as plans don’t change.
