Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, 27 Dresses) has recently signed on to direct the romantic comedy/suspense thriller Murder Mystery. The story is about a couple with a struggling marriage who take a cruise in hopes to fix their relationship. When one of the cruise passengers is murdered, they must travel across Europe to solve the mystery and catch the killer – all while trying to rekindle the flame of their marriage.
Fletcher will direct from the script by James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man, Zodiac), which was inspired as a comedic take on Agatha Christie’s mystery novels (thus the bizarre combination of romantic comedy and suspense thriller). While Vanderbilt has made a name for himself as a screenwriter for several mystery and action thrillers, Fletcher is no stranger to the romantic comedy genre. The combination of the two could prove to be very entertaining.
Charlize Theron will produce and possibly star in the film, which is currently in pre-production. We will keep you posted on details as they emerge in what could prove to be a very unique film.
