Astoria Entertainment heads Matt Dallas (Kyle XY), Charlie Bewley (The Twilight Saga), and Steven Grayhm (White Chicks) are joining the crowd-funding game with their “epic war drama,” Thunder Road. As mentioned in a previous article, Kickstarter and other crowdfunding websites have been gaining popularity in feature film finance lately having been by Zach Braff, Spike Lee, and Rob Thomas. This new film will follow one soldier as he tries to assimilate back into civilian life after serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Grayhm wrote the screenplay and Bewley describes the reason behind their passion project in report from Hollywoodreporter saying, “there are 23 million veterans in the USA and over 5 million in the UK — millions more in the remaining allied forced worldwide. That’s an audience who wants their story told.” All three of the actors will be starring in the film.
The kickstarter earlier today, July 31st and their goal is $750,000 within a 42-day funding period. As of the writing of this article, they have already received donations from 49 backers and raised $6,400. The trio are also starting a nationwide campaign to give Thunder Road a publicity boost using national and regional media, as well as teaming up with Coinforce.com to offer up customized coins to the first 1,000 backers.
The campaign ends September 12.
