Audiences will now be able to get their first peek at Joe Swanberg’s Drinking Buddies, which we previously reported on, starring Olivia Wilde, Anna Kendrick, Jake Johnson, and Ron Livingston. Little was known about the plot of the film, but now it’s clear that it is a relationship film that centers around the perils of maintaining relationships, friendships, and friendships that move into relationship territory. Beasts of the Southern Wild’s Ben Richardson was the film’s cinematographer and his distinctive style, which captured viewer’s gazes within the 2012 Academy Award-nominated underdog, can be observed within the trailer. Wilde, Kendrick, Johnson, and Livingston create an appealing foursome that is sure to attract rom-com and indie lovers. While the movie doesn’t appear strike quite the same tone as 2004’s Oscar-winning Sideways, one can’t help but hope that the parallels (a quartet of friends and an affinity for a particular sort of alcoholic beverage) include the quality of the end product.
Swanberg will be starring in five upcoming films and currently has two other films that he wrote and directed- 24 Exposures and Happy Christmas. Wilde has numerous films underway, including the untitled Tron sequel. Kendrick will be starring in films such as Get a Job, which will also star Bryan Cranston and Allison Brie, and Zach Braff’s crowdfunding-financed Wish I Was Here. Ron Livingston will soon be seen within Touchy Feely, a film we reported on earlier this week, and Johnson will reprise his role as Nick on TV’s New Girl and star in films such as Townies, also featuring Dave Franco, Rose Byrne, and Seth Rogan.
