The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed the complete list of films eligible for nomination in the Best Animated Feature, Best Documentary Feature, and Best International Feature categories for the 98th Academy Awards. Academy voters went through 201 documentaries, 86 international features, and 35 animated features.

There are notable and critically acclaimed films that are eligible for nomination in all three categories. In the documentary category, there’s Netflix’s The Perfect Neighbor, about the death of Ajike Owens, a black mother of four, who died by gun violence at the hands of her white neighbor. There’s also Apple’s Come See Me in a Good Light, which follows poets Megan Falley and Andrea Gibson over the last year of Gibson’s life, following their incurable cancer diagnosis. One of the more ambitious documentaries eligible this year is Orwell: 2 + 2 = 5, distributed by Neon, which attempts to connect the work of author George Orwell, particularly 1984, to the contemporary world.

In the Animated Feature category, there’s the usual fare of recent Disney and Pixar releases such as Elio and Zootopia 2. There’s also KPop Demon Hunters, which has become one of the biggest animated releases for Netflix since it dropped on the streaming service in late June. There’s also a good number of international animated features eligible, including the blockbuster anime Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, the French-language film Arco, and the French animated film Little Amélie or the Character of Rain.

Finally, the International Feature category consists of some of the most critically acclaimed films of the year. These include France’s submission for the category, the Palme d’Or winner, It Was Just an Accident, South Korea’s submission, Park Chan-Wook’s No Other Choice, Brazil’s submission, The Secret Agent, and Norway’s submission, Sentimental Value, which won the Grand Jury prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Most interestingly, all five of these films were distributed by Neon.

The full Oscar nominations will be announced on January 22nd, 2026. The 98th Academy Awards will be held on March 7th, 2026. The complete list of eligible nominees can be viewed here.
