Comic-Con: ‘Wicked’ Movie to Include 4 New Songs

Attention Wicked fans – an item has broken out of San Diego Comic-Con that the upcoming film version of the stage blockbuster will include even more songs. Composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz (a three-time Oscar winner for Pocahontas and The Prince of Egypt) was on hand at the Behind the Music panel and let the cat out of the bag the upcoming Wicked film, to be directed by Stephen Daldry (The Hours), will feature four new songs, adding that one of those numbers was a song that was cut from the stage version.

Musical lovers have already started to theorize that the cut song being re-inserted into the movie version may be “Making Good,” a tune that was was to be sung by the green antihero Elphaba. Reportedly, that song was the very first one Schwartz wrote for the mega-successful musical but was nixed after the composer deemed it too “mild.” That was the biggest bit of news revealed on terms of Wicked, though Schwartz stated that Winnie Holzman, writer of the original book on stage, is currently working on a screenplay.

No casting has yet been announced but previously Universal Pictures declared the movie version of Wicked will open on December 20, 2019.
