Comedy World Pays Tribute to One of its Greatest in the ‘I Am Chris Farley’ Trailer

Comedian Chris Farley appeared on Saturday Night Live from 1990 to 1996 and in that time proved himself to be one of the best sketch comedians to ever hit that hallowed stage. He also headlined a number of films, including Tommy Boy and Black Sheep alongside David Spade (Joe Dirt) as well as Beverly Hills Ninja with Chris Rock (Top Five) and Almost Heroes with Matthew Perry (TV’s Friends) before and after tragically passing away in 1997 at the age of 33 from a drug overdose.

I Am Chris Farley chronicles the short but monumental career of the popular comedian. His fellow SNL alums, including creator Lorne Michaels and actors Adam Sandler, Molly Shannon, Mike Myers, and Dan Aykroyd, weigh in with his other friends and members of the comedy world such as Spade, Bob Odenkirk, Christina Applegate, Bob Saget, and more. The footage both celebrates Farley’s comedic genius and sheds light on his more dark and human moments rarely seen by the public.

The documentary was directed by Brent Hodge and Derik Murray, who has also made a series of I Am docs including I Am Bruce Lee, I Am Steve McQueen, and I Am Evil Knievel. Some of the film’s original material was written by Steve Burgess.

I Am Chris Farley will premiere on Spike TV on August 10th and on VOD and DVD on August 11th.
