Colman Domingo, who was nominated for Best Actor last year for his performance in Rust, has received another Best Actor nomination, this time for his role in Sing Sing. This is the first time this has happened since Denzel Washington in 2017 and 2018 for Fences and Roman J. Israel, Esq.
Colman Domingo is joined by other returning faces for Best Actor nominees as well as one newcomer. Adrien Brody was nominated for The Brutalist, Timothée Chalamet for A Complete Unknown, Ralph Fiennes for Conclave and Sebastian Stan for The Apprentice. All but Sebastian Stan are returning names to the category. Adrien Brody previously won this category back in 2003 for his role in The Pianist.
This year, Colman Domingo has been nominated for Sing Sing, a film about the power of the “Rehabilitation Through the Arts” program at the Sing Sing Maximum Security Prison. The film is based on true events and even features alumni from the program playing themselves in the film. This included Clarence Maclin, who played a significant supporting role in the film. Aside from Colman Domingo’s nomination, the film was also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Song for the song “Like a Bird.”
With the 2025 Oscar Nominations fully revealed, speculation about the winners has officially begun. The 97th annual Oscars goes live on Sunday, March 2.
