Colin Farrell is set to show off his poker face in his next project, The Ballad of a Small Player, which will be helmed by All Quiet On The Western Front director Edward Berger.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is set to begin filming in Asia this summer. It will follow Farrell as a high-stakes poker player trying to deal with his debts and personal history in Macau. While this is happening, he “meets a kindred spirit.”
The film is based on a book by Lawrence Osborne of the same name, but the script of the film was written by Rowan Joffe (28 Weeks Later and The Informer). Production on the film will include Nine Hours, Good Chaos, and Stigma Films.
For Berger, according to Netflix’s Tudum, this will be his first film under the creative contract that he has made with Netflix and comes after winning four Oscars for All Quiet On The Western Front, which was created for Netflix.
As for Farrell, he is working on another project that will be released this month, the Apple TV+ Drama Sugar, which focuses on Farrell’s character investigating the disappearance of a Hollywood producer’s granddaughter.
He is also starring in the Max series The Penguin, in which he reprises his role as the villain of the same name from 2022’s The Batman.
The Ballad of a Small Player currently has no release date.
