Rick Santorum, former Pennsylvanian Senator and 2012 Republican presidential candidate, is apparently trying his (oh-so-conservative) hand at moralizing Hollywood. Recently attaining the position of CEO at Eco Light Studios, a management transaction allegedly causing a degree of internal friction, Santorum has used his insistence on the devil’s pervasiveness within the film industry to justify, and plug, his studio’s new family faith film, The Christmas Candle, which is set to release on the 22nd of November.
In a recent interview on the Trinity Broadcasting Network, the former Senator-turned-producer claimed, “This is a tough business, this is something that we’re stepping out… and the devil, for a long, long time, has had this, these screens, for his playground. And he isn’t going to give it up easily.”
Yet, as he slandered the film industry’s shameful qualities of immorality and greed, he was sure to simultaneously use his airtime to request the faithful to support his cause by going out, and spending money to see his film. “I ask for your prayers for me, for our company, for TBN, for all those involved in The Christmas Candle, and we just want to thank you in advance for everything that you are going to do to help in making this a successful venture.”
Adding to marketing efforts was a mass email dispersed to Santorum’s Patriot Voices faction this past Tuesday. The message writes that the film is loosely based on the novel of the same name, written by Max Lucado, and that its cast will include Samantha Barks (Les Miserables) and singer Susan Boyle.
In the email, provided by rawstory.com, Santorum provides a personal statement, apparently in an attempt to clarify his decision to enter the filmmaking industry. He states, “People have asked me how it is that I can go from politics to working in the movie business. I simply say: if liberal Hollywood actors and producers can get involved in politics then conservative politicians can get involved in Hollywood.”
