‘City Of God’ Sequel Series Set To Release Next Month

A follow-up to acclaimed film City Of God is positioned to release next month. The continuation will be a series called City Of God: The Fight Rages On.

The original City Of God came out just over 20 years ago, in 2002. The film saw two young children become entangled with one another due to their budding passions clashing with one another.

City Of God was a critical hit upon release, and still remains one, as well. It was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Film Editing.

The sequel series finds the same town from the first film, Cidade de Deus, thrown into conflict once again when a drug dealer gets the whole town involved in his schemes.

City Of God: The Fight Rages On brings back original star, Alexandre Rodrigues, alongside other cast members such as Roberta Rodrigues, Thiago Martins, Sabrina Rosa, and Kiko Marques, among many others.

Warner Bros. Discovery was also keen to announce that they pulled stars to appear in the series from throughout Rio de Janeiro.

The series will be written by Aly Muritiba, Sérgio Machado, Renata Di Carmo, Amanda Praça, Estevão Ribeiro, and Rodrigo Felha.

The series will kick off starting August 25th, and will air six episodes. The series will conclude September 29th, and will be available to stream on Max.
