This year at Cinespia’s 24th season being hosted in LA’s Hollywood Cemetary, there will be tribute to David Lynch at his final resting place there. Cinespia will open Memorial Day weekend with The Big Lebowski being screened on May 24th, and Clueless with its 35th anniversary on May 25th.
David Lynch tragically died earlier this year, the highlighted event will be on May 31st when David Lynch’s small town picture Blue Velvet will be screened. Cinespia founder, John Wyatt was quoted by saying,
“Cinespia has always been a love letter to Los Angeles and to the movies that shaped us. We are honored to begin this season with two unforgettable portraits of our city, and a tribute to the great David Lynch.”
Cinespia began screening films at the landmark in LA since 2002 with its screening of Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train for several hundred viewers. Today, Cinespia is produced by Amazon’s Prime Video and MGM studios. The event caters up to 4,000 people at the cemetary location Fairbanks Lawn every year.
Every Cinespia screening has a DJ before and after every movie, and free photo booths inspired by the film being presented that night. There are also drink and concession bars to offer to any guests.
More details concerning Cinespia’s 24th season screenings are yet to be revealed.
