CinemaCon Slated To Honor Actress Geena Davis

Actress Geena Davis is to be honored at CinemaCon, which kicked off today. Davis will receive the Viola Davis Trailblazer Award.

The genesis of the Viola Davis Trailblazer Award goes back to the release of The Woman King, back in 2022. The award was given to Davis for her leading role in the film, in which she plays a warrior in charge of an elite group of soldiers in Africa, composed completely of women.

Geena Davis has an extensive filmography dating back to the 80’s, with her earliest iconic role coming in 1982’s Tootsie. Since then, she’s appeared alongside Jeff Goldblum in David Cronenberg’s horror classic, The Fly, and shared the screen with Tom Hanks in A League Of Their Own.

She’s also appeared in Beetlejuice, Thelma & Louise, and many other films. She’s even appeared on the small screen, with credits for shows like Fantasy Island, Knight Rider, and Grey’s Anatomy.

As Hollywood Reporter points out, Davis will also be busy with her own Bentonville Film Festival, which aims to help out rising talents within the industry, taking place alongside CinemaCon.

The managing director of CinemaCon, Mitch Neuhauser, said that Davis “exemplifies the true essence of a trailblazer in Hollywood for not only her remarkable film career, but also in her tireless advocacy championing underrepresented voices in film and other forms of media.”

Davis will be given the award on April 11th.
