The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) will begin on January 30 and last until February 9. It has announced its “Cinema Regained” program for 2025. This program will feature 43 different films, including restored classics, documentaries, and film heritage explorations. It will include both contemporary films as well as restored films pre-dating the 1970s.
One of the themes of this program is learning to appreciate films that are forgotten or normally underappreciated. Some examples of these underappreciated films include Hafiz Rancajale’s Bachtiar, Edgar Georg Ulmer’s Cossacks in Exile, and Ramón Rivera Moret’s Todo parecía posible.
Women filmmakers will also take center stage. Films such as Katha, Cinema Pe Cinema: The Theatres. The Movies. And Us, and Oyoyo will all be featured. Films from around the globe will all be shown, giving people a proper look at the diverse culture of filmmaking.
With so many unique and lesser-known films showing, attending the festival will be a true opportunity for anyone who loves the art of filmmaking. It will surely be an entertaining, as well as educational, experience for anyone who attends.
Many more films will be shown than could be listed here. For a full list, we encourage you to explore the official list on the IFFR website.
