Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained) is in talks to play the villain in Warner Bros. Tarzan reboot. If negotiations go well, Waltz would portray a military figure who crosses paths with Tarzan (Alexander Skarsgard, The East, HBO’s True Blood).
While there are many film versions of a Tarzan story, the character was originally created in the novels of Edgar Rice Burroughs (who also wrote about the Mars adventures of John Carter). The story of Tarzan being adapted for the big screen by a handful of writers including John August (Frankenweenie), Marianne Wibberley (The 6th Day), and Adam Cozad. Harry Potter veteran David Yates is attached to direct.
While the role of Jane has yet to be cast, Margot Robbie (Focus, The Wolf of Wall Street) is currently being considered for the part.
The role would seem rather in Waltz’s wheelhouse, as he’s twice an Oscar winner for portraying morally gray (if not downright villainous) characters in Quentin Tarantino’s films Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained. Fans of Waltz can see him next in Terry Gilliam’s The Zero Theorem which is set to release in December.
