Variety reports that Chris Pine has boarded the now filming sequel to the 2011 hit comedy Horrible Bosses. The actor, who came to fame as the new Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ revamping of the Star Trek franchise and who is about to revamp the Jack Ryan role made famous by Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford in the upcoming Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit appears set to play half of a father-son duo. There is no confirmation yet on who will play his horrible father; however, internet murmurs have suggested that two-time Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz may have been courted.
The first film opened in the summer of 2011 and found awful employers Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell the targets of a Strangers on a Train murder scheme concocted by disgruntled employees played by Jason Bateman (who appeared in one this years biggest comedy hits Identity Thief opposite Melissa McCarthy), Charlie Day (Pacific Rim) and Jason Sudeikis (star of this past summers surprise hit comedy We’re the Miller opposite Aniston) respectively. Bateman, Day and Sudeikis are all set to return in the sequel directed by Sean Anders (That’s My Boy) and written by John Francis Daley, Jonathon M. Goldstein and Michael Markowitz. With cameras already rolling on Horrible Bosses 2 more casting announcements should be coming soon. The film is planned to be released sometime in 2014.
The quite busy Pine, however, is currently at work filming his role as Cinderella’s Prince in Rob Marshall’s Into the Woods, a musical adaptation of the beloved Stephen Sondheim musical which co-stars Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick and Johnny Depp.
