Chris Pine (Star Trek, Wonder Woman) stars as Robert the Bruce in David Mackenzie’s (Perfect Sense, Starred Up) Outlaw King, coming out sometime this fall. This isn’t the first time Mackenzie and Pine have worked together. They previously collaborated on the Best Picture Oscar-nominated Hell or High Water.
The movie depicts Robert The Bruce in the 14th century as he courageously takes on the superior English army. He is known as a Scottish national hero and leads the Scots to their first independence. Many criticize his cowardly portrayal in the movie Braveheart, which isn’t known for its historical accuracy. It’s unknown how historically accurate this movie will be, but it is clear that it will be painting Robert as a fighter.
Outlaw King isn’t the only movie about the Scottish King. Robert the Bruce, coming out in 2019, features Angus Macfadyen. Macfadyen previously portrayed the King in the previously mentioned Braveheart. The film is not considered a sequel, but rather a spinoff focusing mostly on Robert’s fight against England.
