A biopic about Terry Bollea, better known as Hulk Hogan and one of the most popular pro wrestlers from the 1980s who became the face of the World Wrestling Federation, is currently in the works at Netflix.
The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report that Chris Hemsworth will portray Hogan in the upcoming film which will be directed by Road Trip and The Hangover director Todd Phillips. The script will be penned by Scott Silver and John Pollono, with both Silver and Phillips coming off of writing and directing, respectively, the next DC film out later this year, Joker.
Hogan began his long career in wrestling in the 1970s and became quite popular with his hero character whom he portrayed between 1984 and 1993. He went on to become an iconic personality after starring in films such as Rocky III, making appearances in television, and undertaking many entrepreneurial endeavors. The star has become involved with a number of different scandals and controversies, but his impact on professional wrestling has not been forgotten. Netflix’s biopic will not look to encompass Hogan’s entire life or later years, but focus on his years of stardom and “Hulkmania”.
The project remains in the early stages of development, but it will be another notch in the long list of Netflix’s upcoming film plans.
