Chloe Grace Moretz Joins Tilda Swinton, Dakota Johnson in ‘Suspiria’

Chloe Grace Moretz (Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising) has been cast in the lead role for the Luca Guadagnino (A Bigger Splash) retelling of the classic horror film Suspiria, according to Variety. She will be joining Mia Goth (Nymphomaniac: Vol. II) and Guadagnino’s A Bigger Splash stars Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson, who have already been attached to the project for some time. With the addition of Moretz, the filmmaker’s passion project is ready to begin production.

The original film, made in 1977 by Italian director Dario Argento, tells the story of a young ballerina who goes away to study at a prestigious ballet academy only to find a sinister network of supernatural murders in the school’s underbelly. The word suspiria is latin for “sighs”. Guadagnino’s version will look to re-imagine the story based on David Kajganich’s (A Bigger SplashTrue Story) newly adapted script.

Amazon Studios has acquired domestic and international rights to the film, working with producers Frenesy Film Company and Mythology Entertainment.

Moretz has several roots in horror and other dark genre films, with past appearances in Let Me inCarrieDark Shadows, and The Equalizer. Even her role in Olivier Assayas’ Clouds of Sils Maria as threateningly emerging young actress has likely prepped Moretz for the art-house director’s film. Seeing Moretz align herself creatively with an equally strong supporting female cast is intrigue in itself. Moretz will next be seen in the true story Brain on Fire.
