‘Child’s Play’ Poster Makes Jabs at Weekend’s Competition

Child’s Play is set to release this summer, however, it is not the only toy to come to life this June. The same weekend the horror remake hits big screens, Toy Story 4 is expected to be released as counter programming for the highly anticipated horror remake. It is likely that the Pixar film will be the bigger hit of that weekend, however that won’t stop Chucky from making fun of Woody and friends.

In the newest poster for Child’s Play, we see the foot of Chucky walking away leaving behind him a familiar looking cowboy hat  with a detached arm. The toy behind Chucky is meant to represent Woody and Chucky walking away from the arm with the stuffing all around it implies that Chucky murdered Woody. Not only is this some dark subtle humor having Child’s Play’s main character kill Toy Story’s protagonist, but the background looks almost exactly like the background to some of Toy Story 4′s first posters. It seems very self aware that the film is coming out the same day as a film with very similar elements to it, and it’s definitely making the most out of it.

Child’s Play is set to release June 21st 2019.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
