The anonymous individual that accused comedians Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears of sexually harassing and abusing her and her brother as children has filed to dismiss the lawsuit, according to documents from the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California obtained by The Washington Post.
The plaintiff, known as Jane Doe for anonymity, who originally filed the lawsuit on Aug. 30 on behalf of her and her brother, John Doe, who is still a minor, requested Tuesday to dismiss the claim with prejudice, which means the case cannot be refiled. The lawsuit alleged that Haddish and Spears forced Jane to mimic a sexually suggestive video of two people eating a Subway sandwich while the then-14-year-old was attending a comedy camp in 2013. The lawsuit claimed Haddish “coached” the minor in “giving simulated fellatio” While Spears watched, and that the experience made Jane “physically, emotionally, and mentally uncomfortable.”
The lawsuit detailed that the siblings were informed that appearing in these skits would help them get roles on television. Spears, is a stand-up comedian, best known for his 1997 to 2005 run on the Fox sketch comedy show “MADtv.” Haddish, who was a mainstay on NBC’s “The Carmichael Show” and as well as parts in movies such as The Jordan Peel Penned: “Keanu”. However, she became famous for her breakout role in the 2017 movie “Girls Trip.” directed by Malcolm D. Lee. Her most recent outing was as a CIA agent in the film “The Unbearable Weight of Massive talent” produced by and starring Nic Cage. Despite the lawsuit being dropped Haddish has said that it has done damage to her career. When Haddish was asked about the effect of the suit will have on her career, her answer was not an optimistic one. She said to TMZ:
“Oh, I lost everything. All my gigs, gone..” Haddish continued “..Everything, gone. I don’t know, bro. I don’t have no job. I don’t have no job, bro.”
A couple of days after the court filing for dismissal , Haddish expressed remorse for her actions in a post on Instagram. “Clearly while this sketch was intended to be comedic, it wasn’t funny at all, and I deeply regret having agreed to act in it,” she wrote. After news of the dismissal Tuesday, Spears celebrated on Instagram in a post that also promoted one of his podcast episodes. At current, Haddish has no known plans or future TV and Film roles.
