A few years ago, British animation studio Aardman and Netflix announced their plans to finance a sequel to the cult-classic 2000 film Chicken Run. News on the project has been slow until today, when the film’s title, cast, and first look image were released.

The film will be titled Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget. The voices of Ginger and Rocky have changed from the original films’ Julia Sawalha and Mel Gibson to Thandiwe Newton and Zachary Levi respectively. Jane Horrocks, Imelda Staunton and Lynn Ferguson have all been confirmed to return. With the rest of the new cast members being rounded out by David Bradley, Romesh Ranganathan, Josie Sedgwick-Davies, Daniel Mays, Nick Mohammed, and Bella Ramsey, who will be voicing Ginger and Rocket’s chick Molly.
Here is the film’s official synopsis from Aardman Animations:
Having pulled off a death-defying escape from Tweedy’s farm, Ginger has finally found her dream – a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock, far from the dangers of the human world. When she and Rocky hatch a little girl called Molly, Ginger’s happy ending seems complete. But back on the mainland the whole of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat. For Ginger and her team, even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk – this time, they’re breaking in.
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget is directed by Sam Fell and will be released to Netflix in 2023.
But, this was not the only Aardman news that was announced today. The studio announced that directors Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham will be helming a new Wallace and Gromit film for Netflix. It is still unsure whether this will be a short or a feature. But regardless, it will arrive on Netflix and the BBC in 2024.
Here is that film’s official synopsis:
Gromit’s concern that Wallace has become over-dependant on his inventions proves justified, when Wallace invents a “smart gnome” that seems to develop a mind of its own… As events spiral out of control, it falls to Gromit to put aside his qualms and battle sinister forces – or Wallace may never be able to invent again!
