The Critics’ Choice Awards took place last night, and host Chelsea Handler made sure to honor the late Rob Reiner.
In her monologue before the awards presentation, she said,
Everyone in this room knows that the nicest guy in Hollywood was Rob Reiner. Anyone who ever spent time with Rob Reiner knows that the minute that you met him, he felt like an old friend. When you were in a conversation with him, he was present, he was focused, and he was funny.
She also reminded the crowd of Rob and Michelle’s dedication to causes related to decency and used that as a call to action. She continued,
I think we can all agree that we definitely need more of that, so let’s use tonight as a reminder of that decency and as a reminder of everything Rob and Michele represented and fought so hard for.
Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle, passed away tragically last month, with many people in Hollywood reaching out to express their sorrow. He was famous as a comedic actor, but he was most well-known for his directing work with films such as The Princess Bride, Stand By Me, A Few Good Men, and When Harry Met Sally….
The Critics’ Choice Awards mark the beginning of the film awards season. While the heavy hitters of the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards are still a little ways off, shows like Critics Choice offer a preview of the names you should expect to see at the bigger shows.
