Roadside Attractions’ inspirational drama Where Hope Grows is set for a May 15th release. The heartwarming film, winner of the Audience Choice Award at last year’s Heartland Film Festival, is the tale of a self-destructive former pro athlete and an unexpected relationship that may well help him turn his life around.
The film stars Kristoffer Polaha (TV’s Backstrom) as Calvin Campbell, a once-promising baseball player who turns to the bottle when his career doesn’t go as planned. He also is dealing with a rebellious teenage daughter (McKaley Miller, The Iceman). Campbell strikes up an unlikely friendship with a worker afflicted with Down Syndrome at his local grocery store, whose positive attitude about life starts to rub off on Campbell. That worker, nicknamed Produce, is played by David DeSanctis, one of the first actors with Down Syndrome to play a leading role in an English-language feature. Billy Zabka (How I Met Your Mother), Brooke Burns, Alan Powell and Danica McKellar (well-known for her iconic turn as Winnie Cooper in the TV classic The Wonder Years) help round out the cast.
Chris Dowling directs from his own script. Check out the trailer below.
