Comic Demetri Martin wrote and makes his directorial debut with Dean, a new comedy-drama in which he stars as an New York illustrator who returns home to Los Angeles in the aftermath of his mother’s death. The film made its world premiere at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival (check out our review here) where it took home the Best U.S. Narrative Feature prize. CBS Films acquired the film which will open in theaters on June 2nd. The trailer for the feature was been revealed.
Martin, who has appeared in Ang Lee’s Taking Woodstock, Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion and Lake Bell’s In a World…, stars as a young man who following the death of mother, attempts to persuade his father from selling the family house while falling for a Los Angeles woman. Oscar winners Kevin Kline and Mary Steenburgen co-star, as does Gillian Jacobs (Don’t Think Twice).
