Check Out the Trailer for Cannes Champ ‘I, Daniel Blake’

The first trailer has been unveiled for I, Daniel Blake, the latest from director Ken Loach. The film won the Palme d’Or (the top prize) at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. Sundance Selects is hoping the heart-wrenching drama can crack into the awards conversation and is releasing the film on December 23rd, where it debut in limited engagements. The Hollywood Reporter was the first the reveal the trailer.

Loach, the veteran who also took home the Palme d’Or for his 2005 drama The Wind That Shakes the Barley, tackles yet another socially conscious topic with his latest – the filmmaker cemented his reputation as issues-driven director of socialist bent long ago. I, Daniel Blake, which was penned by Paul Laverty, focuses on a middle-aged carpenter who after suffering a heart attack requires state welfare. As challenges persist, he befriends a single mother facing a similar plight. Dave Johns and Hayley Squires headline.

Check out the trailer below. I, Daniel Blake opens in theaters on December 23rd.
