The first trailer has debuted for Juan Antonio Bayona’s upcoming thriller A Monster Calls. The upcoming Focus Features film boasts a high-caliber ensemble with Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Liam Neeson (Silence), Sigourney Weaver (Avatar), Geraldine Chaplin (Talk to Her) and Pan‘s Lewis MacDougall.
The film centers around a young boy (MacDougall) who turns to a tree monster to help cope with his mother’s terminal illness. Bayona has a striking background in the genre considering his well-regarding spooker The Orphanage (2008) and his experience directing episodes of the Showtime series Penny Dreadful; he also directed the true life horror story The Impossible, a film that earned actress Naomi Watts an Oscar nomination. Bayona is also currently attached to the forthcoming sequel to Jurassic World over at Focus’ parent company Universal. Patrick Ness penned the script for A Monster Calls.
A Monster Calls also boasts Jones, an Oscar nominee for Focus’ 2014 bio The Theory of Everything who also looks to have a commanding 2016 thanks to a leading role in a little movie called Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. A Monster Calls will head to theaters just in time for Halloween on October 14th. Check out the first trailer below.
