Academy Award winners Diane Keaton (The Big Wedding) and Morgan Freeman (Ted 2) are joining forces in the upcoming comedy 5 Flights Up, directed by Richard Loncraine (My One and Only). The film, formerly titled Ruth and Alex, had its premiere at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.
5 Flights Up centers on a long-time married couple (Keaton and Freeman) who realize that the Brooklyn walk-up apartment they’ve shared since the 70s is becoming more of a burden as they age. Their quest to find a new, more convenient place to live is hampered by many people and circumstances, not the least of which is their overzealous real estate agent/niece, portrayed by Tony winner and Sex and the City alum Cynthia Nixon. Carrie Preston (TV’s True Blood) and Miriam Shor (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) round out the rest of the cast.
The script, penned by Charlie Peters, is based on the novel Heroic Measures by Jill Ciment. The film is slated for a May 8th release in theaters and on demand. Check out the trailer below.
