The first promotional poster for Peter Berg’s Patriots Day, about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, has been released by CBS Films. Appropriate to the film title and its subject of marathon runners, the poster is composed of shoelaces in red, white and blue colors eerily arranged in the formation of a tattered American flag. Check it out below:
The film stars Mark Wahlberg (Daddy’s Home), John Goodman (10 Cloverfield Lane), Academy Award winning actor J.K. Simmons (Zootopia), Michelle Monaghan (Pixels), Kevin Bacon (Black Mass), Melissa Benoist (TV’s Supergirl), and Alex Wolff (My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2). Wahlberg plays a composite character based on Boston police officers. The film was shot on location in and around Boston, including at the finish line of this year’s Boston Marathon. Based on Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge’s book Boston Strong: A City’s Triumph Over Tragedy, credited screenwriters include director Berg, Matt Charman, Matt Cook, Eric Johnson, and Paul Tamasy.
Here is the official synopsis for the film:
In the aftermath of an unspeakable act of terror, Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) joins courageous survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again. Weaving together the stories of Special Agent Richard DesLauriers (Kevin Bacon), Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman), Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese (J.K. Simmons) and nurse Carol Saunders (Michelle Monaghan) this visceral and unflinching chronicle captures the suspense of the most sophisticated manhunt in law enforcement history and the strength of the people of Boston.
Patriots Day will open in limited release in the cities of Boston, New York, and Los Angeles on December 21st, followed by a wide release on January 13th.
