Days after learning the official name for the Snow White and The Huntsman sequel, we are now treated with the official theatrical trailer for The Huntsman Winter’s War.
Departing from the original Snow White premise with the sequel, the new films seems to have taken a lot of cues from the success of Maleficent. It abandons the dark theme that was prevalent in the original, opting to cater to the masses more with a more clear cut message of good versus evil.
The trailer does it’s job of marketing the four stars that will carry the film: Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman, Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen, Emily Blunt as the Ice Queen, and Jessica Chastain as the Warrior. From the sound of their character names, it seems the film borrows elements from Snow White, Frozen and other actions films with female heroins.
The plot of the film will focus on the rise of the Ice Queen, and her decree to train huntsman as they are “hardened” in their training. Through the shuffle, her two main huntsman – Chris Hemsworth and Jessica Chastain, who will have a romance arc in their relationship – will turn on her. Soon, her sister – the Evil Queen – shows up to battle her old nemesis in the Huntsman. “Hello, Huntsman, I’ve missed you,” utters the Evil Queen upon their first encounter since the events of the first film.
The trailer delivers a lot of details. Continuing with the same fantastical elements that were present in the first movie, and expanding on them as to create a world similar to other fantasy films – glorious and wondrous – the viewer will be carried away in this new world full of action sequences and epic battles.
