In the upcoming zombie flick Maggie, Arnold Schwarzenegger plays the father of a girl infected with a zombie virus. As Maggie (Abigail Breslin, Little Miss Sunshine) begins her transformation, we see a different take on the apocalyptic thriller genre, in which a father will do anything to protect his daughter.
Schwarzenegger plays Wade, a Midwestern father who loves his daughter very much, even amidst the outbreak of a virus that slowly transforms the infected into cannibalistic zombies. In the trailer, we see that the virus, rather than exploding across the world, is instead being treated, studied, and catalogued, and we get a sense of how the world is dealing with the virus: medical care and quarantine rather than shooting the zombies in the head and decapitating them like in many other zombie flicks. Wade protects his daughter at every turn, fighting against the local law enforcement, who only want to detain Maggie and eliminate the threat she poses to everyone else.
Alongside Schwarzenegger and Breslin, the movie stars Joely Richardson (Vampire Academy), Laura Cayouette (The Loft), Denise Williamson (The D Train), and many others. The movie, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 23, was directed by Henry Hobson, in his directorial debut, and written by newcomer John Scott 3. The film was originally set to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival before Lionsgate bought the distribution rights and it was pulled from the roster. Maggie is set for a limited theatrical release as well as on video on demand on May 8, 2015. Check out the new trailer below.
