For those counting down to the film’s March release, Disney has dropped a new trailer for their highly-anticipated live-action version of the 1950 animated classic Cinderella. The latest trailer promises us that there is “more to the legend than you ever dreamed.”
The film is a re-imagining of the classic Disney tale, the story of Ella, a girl whose life is uprooted when her father dies suddenly and is forced to act as a servant for her cruel stepmother and her two stepsisters. A chance meeting with a prince and a visit from a Fairy Godmother could very well be life-changing for Ella.
The new trailer gives us a bit of a deeper look into the initial meeting of Cinderella (Downton Abbey‘s Lily James) and her handsome prince, played by Game of Thrones star Richard Madden. In addition, it plays up Cate Blanchett’s evil stepmother’s expanded role in the story. We also get more of a glimpse of Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother (Helena Bonham Carter) and an expanded view of the scope and pageantry of the royal ball.
Kenneth Branagh (Thor) directs from a screenplay by Chris Weitz, who recently signed on to script the upcoming Star Wars standalone project. Cinderella hits theaters on March 13.
