Following yesterday’s tease, today comes the official trailer for Tom Ford’s evocative star-packed melodrama Nocturnal Animals. Led by Amy Adams and Jack Gyllenhaal, the film tells the chilling story of a woman haunted by her ex when a manuscript written by him arrives at her doorstep. For fashion mogul Ford, the film marks his second feature film following the 2009 arthouse success A Single Man – which earned Colin Firth his first Oscar nomination – and perhaps looks to further his cultural status as style maven. Currently doing the festival rounds – Nocturnal Animals premiered at the Venice Film Festival and recently played the Toronto Film Festival – the film opens this fall courtesy of Focus Features.
The story may be a tricky sell however. As Adams’ character reads the disturbing novel sent to her by her ex, the film showcases the events of the book: a dark, brooding revenge story, which set sees as a thinly veiled threat; the novel is dedicated to her after all. Michael Shannon (99 Homes), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Isla Fisher (The Great Gatsby) and Laura Linney (Sully) are all a part of the film’s tony ensemble cast. Ford penned the screenplay as well, an adaptation of Austin Wright’s novel Tony and Susan. As icing on top of all already beautiful, if chilly, cake, the film nabbed the Silver Lion (Grand Jury Prize) at the Venice Film Festival.
