Paramount Pictures has released a second trailer for their upcoming film Fences starring two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington and two-time Oscar nominee Viola Davis. The film, an adaptation of August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize winning play, stars the power duo as a married couple living in 1950s Pittsburgh. Wilson, who passed away in 2005, penned the screenplay.
In the film, Washington plays Troy, a garbageman who once showed promise as baseball player, who attempts to raise his family alongside his wife Rose (Davis). Through the prism of Wilson’s authoritative yet imitate writing, the piece looms larger on themes of race and the prospects of the American Dream as seen through the experiences of ordinary men and women. Washington directs the film as well – he previously directed The Great Debaters (2007) and Antwone Fisher (2002); the latter of which featured Davis in a supporting role. Mykelti Williamson, Russell Hornsby, Jovan Adepo and Stephen Henderson co-star. Both Washington and Davis won Tony Awards for starring in a 2010 Broadway revival of Fences.
The film, which is attracting awards buzz, opens in theaters on Christmas Day. Check out the latest trailer below.
