Check Out Matthew McConaughey and Edgar Ramirez in First ‘Gold’ Still

Entertainment Weekly has released new image of stars Matthew McConaughey (The Sea of Trees) and Edgar Ramirez (Point Break) in the new treasure-hunting adventure, Gold

In the film from director Stephen Gaghan (Syriana), McConaughey plays Kenny Wells, a struggling businessman who teams up with a failed geologist (Ramirez) to find gold in the Indonesian jungle. Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World), Corey Stoll (Ant-Man) and Toby Kebbell (Fantastic Four) also star in the movie.

Based on the image, it’s unclear whether this will be a lighthearted adventure similar to his previous journey in 2005’s Sahara or a more serious take on the genre. McConaughey also just finished shooting the civil war drama The Free State of Jones and is shooting the animated film Kubo and the Two Strings. Ramirez also has lot on the docket including the remake to Point Break and David O. Russell’s latest, Joyto be released later this year.

Since Syriana released in 2005, Gaghan hasn’t written or directed much. He worked on the story for the video game Call of Duty: Ghosts as well as the TV movies, White City and Metro.

Gold is currently set to release next year with no specific date in place.
