Japanese director Kazuaki Kiriya will make his English-language debut with the upcoming actioner Last Knights. The film, starring Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby) and Oscar-nominee Clive Owen (Closer), is set for a limited release in theaters on April 3rd, along with a day-and-date VOD release. Kiriya’s film was actually shot a couple of years back, but will finally see the light of day this spring. In the swords and warriors epic, Owen plays a fallen hero going up against a sadistic ruler in order to avenge the legacy of his dishonored master (Freeman).
The film sold well in key international markets at 2014’s American Film Market but struggled to find a a foothold domestically until mini-major Lionsgate stepped up to the plate.
Kiriya (the Japanes-language Goemon and Casshern) directs from a screenplay by Michael Konyves (Barney’s Version) and first-time writer Dove Sussman. Check out the trailer below.
