Girls just want to have fun – even if they are princesses! The upcoming film A Royal Night Out has English princesses Elizabeth and Margaret escaping the bonds of the palace as they join all of London to celebrate V-E day, the end of World War II. Bel Powley portrays Margaret, who convinces her older sister, Elizabeth – yes, the one who would be Queen, played by Sarah Gadon (Maps to the Stars) – to entreat their parents for a hall pass to join the celebration on the streets of London. A night of romance and adventure ensues. Powley is coming off a breakout performance in the indie darling The Diary of a Teenage Girl and was named one of Variety’s 10 Actors to Watch list for 2015.
Rupert Everett (the voice of Prince Charming in the Shrek films) and Emily Watson (The Theory of Everything) play the Royal parents. Julian Jarrold (Becoming Jane) directs from a script by Trevor De Silva and Kevin Hood. The film had its US premiere at the Hamptons International Film Festival earlier this month and will hit theaters in limited release on December 4th. Check out the trailer below.
