Oscar-winner Charlize Theron is stepping into the role of bad-ass once again in David Leitch‘s Atomic Blonde. The film will debut this weekend at the SXSW Film Festival and Universal has released the film’s “restricted trailer” ahead of time. The footage certainly delivers early on as we see Theron take down a slew of henchmen in hand-to-hand combat (which apparently involves a lot of elbow work).
The film comes from the director of John Wick, David Leitch, who is also the upcoming director of Deadpool 2. The filmmaker seems to be showing audiences the brilliant blend of action, comedy, and glitz that he has in his wheelhouse.
Atomic Blonde is based off The Coldest City graphic novel series by Antony Johnston and Illustrator Sam Hart. The screenplay was adapted by Kurt Johnstad (300) and follows Theron as Agent Lorraine Broughton, MI-6’s most dangerous assassin. She is sent on a solo mission to Berlin to retrieve a dossier from the destabilized and crumbling city. Embedded station chief David Percival (James McAvoy) is her only ally in delivering the precious cargo out of Berlin.
Toby Jones, Sofia Boutella, and John Goodman also star.
