Charlize Theron Discusses Evolution of Action Heroines And Overall Career

Academy Award-winning actress Charlize Theron rolls up her sleeve for a lengthily interview with IGN as the Mad Max: Fury Road star covers her career spanning nearly four decades, her crossover into action-oriented films, and lastly the future of women in the action genre according to Deadline.

In a 32 minute Q&A with IGN’s Terri Schwartz, Theron examines her past work in the action genre ranging from Atomic Blonde to her recent role in the Netflix project The Old Guard and the significant impact those projects have had on Hollywood. Theron expressed her joy about the progress women are making in the film industry regarding gender roles and tackling uncharacteristic portrayals that are seldom seen from actresses.

“We have to keep putting pressure on industry,” Theron stated in regard to normalizing female roles in mainstream film.

At 40 years old, Theron was renowned for jumping into two major action films in 2015 with Mad Max: Fury Road and Atomic Blonde, something in which the actress viewed as a gutsy career move. Theron further explained that many actresses at her age would be passed over for younger starlets, but the Monster star was persistent to prove her naysayers wrong. Theron considered “her time was running out” and immediately jumped on the George Miller-helmed project.
