Greta Gerwig is still in the early stages of development with her upcoming The Chronicles of Narnia adaptation to be screened on IMAX and released through Netflix. Netflix originally made the announcement in 2018 as Gerwig was brought on in 2020 following her success with Little Women but before her smash hit with Barbie.
The most recent update for Gerwig’s adaptation of Narnia is how singer Charli xcx has been updated to potentially be cast as the villainous white witch in the first installment of The Chronicles of Narnia. The same role was previously played by female actor Tilda Swinton in Disney’s 2005 adaptation of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Even though nothing is finalized yet, Charli xcx is reported to be one of the top choices for the role of the white witch.
Charli xcx is an unusual casting for the role of the white witch due to her limited acting experience and her long-standing music career. She recently worked with Greta Gerwig for Barbie while writing the song Speed Drive. Fans have recently speculated that there could be a musical element to this version of Narnia, as producer Amy Pascal recently said,
The New Narnia is, “a very new take on Narnia,” and is “all about rock and roll.”
If there is a musical element to Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Narnia, this will be a fresh, modern update to C.S. Lewis’ classic tale. ScreenRant.com has claimed how Charli xcx portrayal could also add a new edgy rock-and-roll persona to the villain of Narnia.
