After making an impactful career in the music scene, Charli Xcx is beginning to have quite the filmography lined up. Announced to be cast in multiple upcoming feature films, such as Pete Ohs’ TIFF premiering Erupcja, 100 Nights of Hero co-starring Maika Monroe and Emma Corrin, Greg Arraki’s I Want Your Sex, and her own collaboration with A24, The Moment. Now, Charli is slated to star in the feature directorial debut for actress Dakota Johnson, titled A Tree is Blue. 

Also set to join the cast is Jessica Alba. Johnson will be directing from a screenplay by Vanessa Burghardt, who is also in talks to appear in the film. Johnson and Burghardt previously worked together in the Apple TV+ feature Cha Cha Real Smooth. A Tree is Blue will be the second project directed by Johnson, who helmed the short film Loser Baby, which premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Plot details on A Tree is Blue, which is still in pre-production, have been kept under wraps for now, but stay tuned for the latest developments.
