Channing Tatum Makes His Return to Acting and Why He Won’t Watch Marvel Movies

The X-Men mutant character Gambit is popular amongst comic books fans. Those fans who grew up during the 90s remember watching Gambit on Saturday morning cartoons over on Fox. Gambit’s ranked the most popular character in X-Men though he comes up second to Wolverine.

Channing Tatum and producer Reid Carolin tried to develop Gambit over the course of four years. 20th Century Fox approved of the idea back in 2016, but plans soon fell through. In an interview with Variety, Tatum explained his feelings towards Marvel after there was no hope for Gambit: “Once Gambit went away, I was so traumatized.” The actor refused to watch the Avengers thereafter, saying, “I shut off my Marvel machine. I haven’t been able to see any of the movies. I loved that character. It was just too sad. It was like losing a friend because I was so ready to play him.”

After taking a hiatus from acting, Tatum is returning to the filming world. His first comeback will be in Dog, a film that details a former Army Ranger traveling across the country with a dog. Army Ranger Briggs (Tatum) and Lulu (Brigg’s companion) road trip in their 1984 Ford Bronco to the Pacific Coast in hopes of making it to a fellow soldier’s funeral. Tatum will also be starring alongside Sandra Bullock in the film The Lost City with fellow big-name actors Daniel Radcliffe, and Brad Pitt.

The film Dog will be released on February 18, while The Lost City is set for a March 25 release.
