Celebrate Action Cinema: BFI Southbank’s Exciting Fall Series

BFI Southbank is partnering with the London Action Festival this fall to present “The Art of Action” series. It will run from October 21 through November 30. This program promises a captivating look at the craft of action cinema, blending screenings, talks, and live demonstrations with appearances from some of the genre’s most influential creators.

Showcasing the series on November 8, Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie and editor Eddie Hamilton, will join audiences for a special screening of the 1964 classic The Train. This partnership has also brought unforgettable moments to films like Rogue Nation, Fallout, and Dead Reckoning!

McQuarrie and Hamilton will discuss the film’s legacy and how it has influenced their approach to creating high-stakes movies. Their action cinema is certainly noteworthy!

Another must-see is the November 21 screening of George Miller’s 1982 Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. The film redefined post-apocalyptic storytelling. This event will feature a personal message from Miller himself and an in-person discussion with the producer of Mad Max: Fury Road, Iain Smith.

Past screenings from this series have held hold-out events, with highlights like Die Hard in 2022, and The Italian Job in 2023.

This year, on November 16, the British Stunt Register will take over BFI Southbank, offering fans deep insight into the evolution of stunts over the last 50 years with live demos, talks, panels, and workshops.

Co-founder Ron Fogelman calls Mad Max 2 “a genuine landmark of cinema,”. He adds that the festival seeks to go beyond showcasing films. It should create an unforgettable communal experience This aligns well with the festival’s mission to connect industry professionals, talent, and audiences!

Supported by the BFI Film Audience Network with National Lottery funding, the “Art of Action” season celebrates action choreography across cinema history. As the UK’s premier repertory cinema, BFI Southbank provides seasons of classic, independent, and foreign films!
