Paramount was just able to come out on top in a bidding war for a new film. The film in question, Over Asking, saw six interested groups, counting Paramount, with the bids reported reaching past $1 million. Over Asking follows a couple whose own fate is put at risk after meeting a female attorney. The film is described as a homage to older revenge films mixed with erotic themes.
The film itself was written by Caroline Dries. Dries works mostly in television, serving as a writer on a number of TV shows, including The Vampire Diaries and Smallville. Dries also served as a showrunner for the full 51-episode run of Batgirl, as well as writing one episode of Arrow, and one episode of Gotham Knights.
The deal being finalized, as Deadline reports, makes for a positive benchmark in the industry, showing that interest still remains, as well as a desire, for projects such as these. Deadline also made note of the timing of events, coming after both the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes that coincided just last year. Reportedly, the other five studios who threw their hat in the ring to get the film were Amazon, Apple, New Line, Skydance, and Sony.
