Fox 2000 has the rights to the entire Patricia Cornwell Kay Scarpetta series and has been looking to revamp the franchise for quite awhile, searching for the best writer for the job. Well, their search is over as Oscar-nominated screenwriter Phyllis Nagy (Carol) has been tapped to adapt Cornwell’s Untitled Kay Scarpetta film.
The strong female character of Scarpetta has appeared in over two dozen best-selling books and most recently this year’s Chaos. Nagy has the honor of bringing yet another memorable female protagonist to the screen through her writing. Her previous screenplay Carol brilliantly adapted Patricia Highsmith’s The Price of Salt, with female leads Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, who were also both nominated for Oscars.
Mark Gordon (Murder on the Orient Express) is producing.
Nagy also penned HBO’s Mrs. Harris and will adapt The Trap for Tristar Pictures. Check back for updates!
