Via Deadline, Carey Mulligan has signed on for her next project entitled Spaceman, after coming off one of the biggest films of her career, netting the 35 year-old actor her second nomination. She joins Adam Sandler in his next Netflix project, though it is quite different than his other collaborations with the studio. Mulligan will be playing the wife of Sandler’s Spaceman.
The film is an adaptation of the 2017 Sci-Fi novel Spaceman of Bohemia written by Jaroslav Kalfař. It follows an astronaut sent to a vastly different part of the galaxy than he has ever seen. The novel itself has two distinct sections so it will be interesting to see if the adaptation does something similar.
Directing the film is Johan Renck, most well-known for his direction in such hit TV series as Chernobyl, The Walking Dead, and Breaking Bad. However, Renck has most-notably, for this upcoming project, directed the David Bowie music videos for Lazarus and Blackstar. Which finds fun references throughout Bowie’s history, and there are a plethora of strange and inspiring space iconography throughout Blackstar in particular.
It is unknown how significant Mulligan’s role will be, as wives of astronauts get very little to work with, though coming off of Promising Young Woman, Mulligan is in a place where she could pick and choose her role. Here’s to hoping this role is meaty enough for the incredibly talented actor.
There is no set production or release date for the Netflix film Spaceman.
